The Church School
Our Sunday School meets every Sunday during the 9:15am
service. After the blessing of the children, the children go to
their respective classes in the hall and the pastoral center. At
approximately 10:00am, they join the congregation for the
Eucharist.
Our numbers vary from Sunday to Sunday. Some of our youngest are
18 mos. to the oldest being around 8-9 years of age. We are
hoping to have our program grow in numbers so that we have
several classes, one of them being with teenagers.
The school program is divided into the four seasons. We are looking for
individuals to work with the children over the summer. On June
1st we are beginning our summer session which is for 14 weeks
and we look for people to give one Sunday during that time.
During this period we follow the Multi-age curriculum which
helps instructors handle all age levels at once. Parents and
older children often give a helping hand depending on the
numbers attending.
If anyone is interested in being a Sunday School teacher during
the summer or throughout the rest of the year please contact The
Rev. David Peterson at 250-715-0422.
The other three seasons make up our fall, winter and spring
program. Each one of these seasons are from 12 to 14 weeks long.
We look for instructors, individuals or teams, who are ready to
commit their time for a season. Some of our instructors teach
through the three seasons and find when they work as a team, the
workload is much less. Here again, we are hoping to find more
interested folk to work with our young people.
In the latter part of August, we will be meeting to plan our
fall and winter sessions. As instructors and helpers with the
Sunday School, we meet three or four times a year for planning
purposes. The curriculum that we follow is Seasons of the Spirit
which we find to be a very well laid out guide for every Sunday.
This includes the readings, prayers, a story and activities.
We welcome all children who are at church to join us at Sunday
School. We love meeting and sharing with those who are just
visiting with us and are always welcoming newcomers to join us.
Some of the activities that we do as a group through the year
are as follows:
- Operation Christmas Child (Filling of shoeboxes for Christmas
gifts for those children in other countries).
- Christmas Pageant followed with a Pot Luck dinner.
- Support a foster child
- Easter celebrations
- Children's Eucharist
- Singing (The children love the time spent in song.)
- Crafts
- Birthdays at the end of each month.
- Making Advent candles or calendars.
