Altar Guild
Purpose
The Altar Guild prepares the worship space for the ministry within the church ensuring it is kept beautiful and in good order for the worship of God and to provide a setting that helps the congregation in their worship.
The guild:
- is concerned with the things of worship, the worship space, the care and placement of furnishings, appointments and ornaments used in worship.
- maintains, cleans and makes presentable the chancel, altar, and font.
- cares for and maintains the sacramental vessels, elements, linens, paraments, candles and other items used in the chancel for worship.
- arranges flowers, purchased or donated, in the church.
- orders palm fronds and makes crosses for Palm Sunday.
- maintains supplies necessary for services including sacraments and candles and advises church office of inventory requirements.
- maintains a supply of linens in good order, providing for cleaning and, on occasion, makes linens for altar and worship services.
- maintains a bank account of funds donated to guild for purchase of flowers or other guild expenditures.
- bread making for the communion service
Structure
The Guild President is appointed by the incumbent.
Guild members are volunteers from the congregation.
