Music
Purpose
To provide music in the form of choral or/and instrumental music for all services when it is necessary. This may extend to funerals and weddings if so requested and members are available at the time.
The music group leaders will:
- be involved with the worship committee and meet with them as required;
- provide leadership for music at choir practices and all services, as required.
General principles:
- the music will be in consistent forms and patterns (i.e. shall be based on standard Anglican hymn books and other approved sources);
- hymns will reflect the atmosphere of the different services;
- music must contribute to the theme of the service;
- a primary responsibility of the choir is to encourage and support congregational singing;
- hymns selected should, generally, be familiar to the congregation;
- music selected should also meet the needs of the musicians (e.g. - singing in harmony, solos, etc.).
Operational issues:
- there must be advance planning of the music for all services
- hymns and numbers must be available for the leaflet by Wednesday noon of each week;
- music selections are subject to the final approval of the priest who should communicate any special requests to the music leaders in sufficient time for the necessary planning and practice;
- a choir practice should be held on a regular basis;
- there will be respect for copyright;
- there will be music played prior to the start of the services and following the service. This music could be presented using CDs as well as organ or other instruments;
- -input from the congregation is welcome.
