Greetings to all the good folk of St. John the Baptist, Cobble Hill!
I’m Stephanie, your shiny new incumbent, and I’m thrilled to be joining you in a few
short weeks. As such it was suggested to me that I put together a little biography so
you may get a sense of who I am before I join you.
I was born on February 17th, 1973 in the town of Duncan. I was raised on 6 and a half
acres in Cobble Hill, about 5 or 6 minutes from St. John’s. When I was twelve years old
I discovered the joys of horseback riding. For twenty five years I had my own horses,
and I showed my horse Beau in the Cobble Hill fair until I was twenty two.
Before I became a priest I was licensed practical nurse. I spent twenty one years
working for what is now Island Health, in both the extended care and acute care
settings. It was during my last five years of nursing that I felt a call to the priesthood. In
2014 I left nursing and devoted myself full time to studies, first at VIU, then at VST,
where I graduated with a Master’s of Divinity in 2019. I also completed a Clinical
Pastoral Education residency for Providence Health Care in Vancouver, before moving
back to the island in 2020.
Ibegan my ministry as a curate at St. John the Divine in Victoria, supporting the
pastoral care team, and ministering the sacraments. Following my curacy I was
delighted to serve as their priest associate before becoming incumbent at St. Peter’s
Anglican Church in Campbell River.
In my personal life I have a wonderful partner named Pat who is my rock and my lovey.
My folks are still happily living on the same six and half acres in Cobble Hill I grew up
on. My sister Kim lives in central Saanich and she also has a wonderful partner named
Roy. I am a smiley, joyful child of God. I’m also highly extroverted. There’s nothing more
that I love doing than gathering folk to the table for communion and visiting them at
home and in hospital. My passions include socializing, cooking, baking, gardening,
hosting get-togethers, and of course, horses!
